EXAMPLE OF ADJECTIVES:
An adjective modifies a noun or pronoun.
One of the two sentences below gives more exact information than the other.
The house has a fireplace.
The ancient house has a gigantic fireplace.
The second sentence gives a more exact picture of the house and fireplace because it contains the adjectives ancient and gigantic. Adjectives are words that modify nouns or pronouns. Modify means "describe" or "limit." Adjectives modify by answering the questions shown below.
What kind? bright colors ,blue colors, dull colors
Which one? every color , each color, second color
How much? enough color , little color , some color
How many? two colors, all colors, few colors
Adjectives usually stand before the words they modify, but they can follow.
Bright, warm colors appear in sunsets.
Colors, bright and warm, appear in sunsets.
They are bright and warm.
In the above sentences the adjectives bright and warm modify the noun colors and the pronoun they.
The articles a, an, and the are adjectives. The is called a definite article because it refers to specific persons, places, or things. A and an are called indefinite articles because they refer to a person, place, or thing in general.
Eat the shiny red apple, (a specific apple)
Eat an apple or a banana, (any apple or banana)
