Example of Conjunctions eg

EXAMPLE OF CONJUNCTIONS:

A conjunction joins words or groups of words in a sentence.

Conjunctions are connecting words. The most common conjunctions are and, but, or, and nor. These are called coordinating conjunctions. They connect words that do the same kind of work in sentences.

Coordinating Conjunctions
noun + noun                sun and clouds
pronoun + pronoun    you or I
noun + pronoun          Aunt Louise and he
adjective + adjective  tired but satisfied
verb + verb                   hopped, slapped, and jumped
adverb + adverb         sooner or later

Coordinating conjunctions can also be used to join groups of similar words and sentences.

They have finally finished and will soon leave. The summer was very chilly, but the winter was mild. Wear your red sweater or your blue jacket. You did not call me, nor did I call you.

Some conjunctions are made up of pairs of words.
either - or    not only - but also
neither- nor     both-and

These pairs are called correlative conjunctions. Notice in the examples below that correlative conjunctions, like coordinating conjunctions, can join either individual words or groups of words.

Correlative Conjunctions
Lost in the desert, we had neither food nor water.
The crowd likes both my paintings and my sculpture.
The machine not only picks the peas but also shells them.
